About Clayton Cannaday
I am a self-taught artist; from a small town in the North Idaho Panhandle; Priest River. I prefer to draw portraits; but I find that if I can conceptionalize it, I can put it to paper. My chosen medium is pen and ink, on penatalic paper and I prefer technical pens.
My style is unique in that I combine pointillism/stippling and line art (dot and slash) to produce my finished product. I find the style reproduces well and can be resized with little or no issue.
The artwork speaks for itself, people either like it or they do not.
I started drawing portraits while performing historical research, attempting to produce images from descriptive materials, and artist renderings of historical figures.
It must be understood that many early likenesses can only be viewed through the work of artists of that day. If the artist that produced the original rendering was not very accurate niether will any works produced from those rendering; be accurate. This is seen in effect in some of my galleries.
I was afforded the opportunity to travel abroad extensively with the military; allowed me to study, and learn about multiple cultures. I have produced artworks in several countries.
I currently live in Oregon. I draw; custom pen and ink portraits. I work from my home, and via the internet. Originals range in price depending on the degree of difficultly in the work and the amount of faces in the work. Portraits make great gifts, corporate illustrations, even posters for family members.
As many clients find a desire to have a diverse display of finished products. I have chosen to post my flat work to an artist website called Fine Art America at www.fineartamerica.com. This allows people to purchase artwork finished as canvas prints, framed prints, art prints (posters), acrylic prints, metal prints and greeting cards.
Not all works posted to that site are for sale, but are posted as examples. [i.e., Stephen's Mom]
